Popular Music Genres

Music is an important aspect in the community. It goes a long way into shaping the community into what it is. There are different genres out there and they are all loved and listened to by different people. The love of a specific genre is depended on an individual. Here are some genres.

Rap

This are chanted or spoken lyrics that rhyme and following a certain beat and intertwined with music, it is not similar to spoken word. It is different in that spoken word does not follow a specific beat. Rap music has evolved over the years to being one of the most popular and listened to genres of music. It is also associated with hip hop music. Over the years and more artists have taken up rap. Some of these artists include: Eminem, Chris Brown, Dj Khaled, Tory Lanez, Young Thug and many more.

Rock

In the past it was called Rock and Roll music. It is a genre that has evolved over the years from rock and roll and pop. Its roots are from the 1940s and 1950s. This type of music was heavily influenced by a combination of several types of music including blues, country songs, electric blues and folk. This type of music is separated into two. Hard rock which is characterized by heavy instrumentation especially of the electric guitar and the drum. The soft rock on the other side is an easier and softer version of this.

Some of the artists doing rock include both individuals such as Eric Clapton and bands such as The Rolling stones, The Beatles, Linking Park, the Newsboys among others.

Rhythm and Blues

Popularly called R&B or RnB, is a genre whose roots can be traced to the 1940s African American communities. Over the ears the name has seen several changes as from electric blues to the blues to soul music and man more. This type of music is smooth and soulful. In many cases this genre has music that speaks to the heart. It has been dominated by love music.

Some artists in this type of music include Rihanna, Chris Brown, Beyonce, Ashanti, All Saints etc.

Country Music

A genre that originated from the southern United States, with its roots in the southern Folk music, the blues and the western music. Its name changed from Hillbilly music to country music in the mid-20th century. It is known to have originated from the blending of various songs from different genres. Apart from the US, the genre is also popular in other countries including the UK, Canada, Australia etc.

Some of the artists in this music include Alan Jackson, Bill Monroe, Jimmie Rodgers, William Nelson etc.

Latino Music

This is music from the Latin America including territories of America and the Caribbean countries south of the United States. This genre is popular in Latin speaking countries. In other cases these countries are known as the Romance speaking countries because of their involvement in production of Telenovelas. Latina music is music dominated by romance. It encompasses a diversity of styles such as salsa, rhumba etc.

This music has also been influenced by Western music from the US. Some of the artists include; Romeo Santos, Juan Gabriel, Ricky Martin, Calibre 50 among others.
